Wayne Butt graduated from Otago University 1979, studied in various locations thoughout New Zealand, completing his specialist training in Otolaryngology  (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery) in 1986. A fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology was serviced in Brisbane in 1987 and further training in the UK until 1989.

As a specialist registrar Wayne was awarded the Louis Barnett prize while working at Christchurch Hospital.

Special interests have included:

• Surgery for nasal obstruction
• The management of stenosis
• Daystay surgery
• Salivary gland surgery
• Globus Pharyngeus

At ORLCENTRAL  we will make every effort to ensure that you feel welcomed, that you have time to describe your concerns, and we are committed to having you actively involved in any decisions with management options that may be outlined. Of course you may have a very simple problem – perhaps a child with glue ear where the decision around inserting grommets is straightforward. More often the process of working out the cause of your symptoms and its treatment options is more complex.

Be assured we will discuss the options together. I believe a decision for surgery, if that is appropriate, should never be rushed or pressurized, so you will have time to consider the alternatives, and the pro’s and con’s, before you proceed to the consent process.

Surgical consent is a process – not simply a form to be signed. If your condition requires an operation we will work through the relevant information together.

Be assured you will be given the information and advice that I would want for myself or my family is I suffered the same issues. I understand well that suffering symptoms that trouble you may leave you vulnerable. The process of diagnosis and treatment requires time and empathy.
